Edward McFerran originally founded the law firm. He practices as an attorney primarily in the areas of real estate, business and tax matters. He is presently a shareholder in the firm along with Jean Bouffard and Matthew Link.

Mr. McFerran has served as President and managing Shareholder of Tax Deferred Exchange Services, Inc., a national Qualified Intermediary company. In that capacity, Mr. McFerran’s professional practice has focused on tax planning for clients throughout the United States in the tax deferred exchange arena, advising taxpayers, exchangors, accountants, trustees, Qualified Intermediaries and escrow agents. In addition, Mr. McFerran has himself served as Qualified Intermediary in literally thousands of tax deferred exchange transactions throughout the United States.

Mr. McFerran is a frequent speaker on tax and law matters sponsored by bar associations, accounting groups and other various private industry groups. Mr. McFerran is a graduate of Seattle University Alber’s School of Business. He received his law degree with honors from the University of Puget Sound School of Law.

Jean Meschke Bouffard attended Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College, in Portland, Oregon and earned her Juris Doctorate with a Certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law in 1985. She received Honors in Legal Writing, Research & Reasoning, the Outstanding Oral Advocacy Award and the American Jurisprudence Award for Administrative Law. She was chosen to serve as a summer extern with Judge Otto Skopil, Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals in 1984. 

After graduation from law school, Ms. Bouffard served as law clerk to Chief Judge George Joseph, Oregon Court of Appeals, 1985-1987. Ms. Bouffard is dedicated to providing thorough and effective legal services. Understanding how courts interpret contracts gives Ms. Bouffard the knowledge to effectively negotiate and draft contracts for her clients. Ms. Bouffard has extensive experience advising individuals, start-up companies and established businesses on a broad range of subjects, including contracts, vendor matters, entity form, employment matters, tenancy, regulatory compliance, acquisitions and business partner issues. Ms. Bouffard began her trial attorney experience involved in class action securities litigation.

In 1991, she opened her own practice focusing on business and real estate disputes, including trials, appeals, arbitrations and mediations. As a trial attorney, Ms. Bouffard has represented clients in cases involving contract disputes, contract enforcement, business partner disputes, shareholder disputes, fraud, mechanics liens/contractor liens, Homeowners Association’s disputes and CC&R violations, trade name protection, real estate disputes, eminent domain proceedings, property line disputes, land use disputes, estate planning, will contests and probates. Understanding how courts interpret contracts gives Ms. Bouffard the knowledge to effectively draft and negotiate contracts for her clients. Ms. Bouffard has extensive experience advising individuals, start-up companies and established businesses on a broad range of subjects, including contracts, vendor matters, entity form, employment matters, tenancy, regulatory compliance, acquisitions and business partner issues. 

Jean is presently a shareholder in the law firm along with shareholders Edward McFerran and Matthew Link.

Heather Walley is a career associate real estate attorney with our law firm.  She graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.  Heather then attended the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California obtaining her Juris Doctor degree.  After graduation, she returned to her home State of Washington where her family also resides.

Heather in the past worked with a large law firm in Seattle assisting in judicial foreclosures and mediations through the Home Affordable Modification Program.  She also worked closely in past years with a local real estate attorney involved in primarily litigation matters.  She has, over her years as an attorney, worked in literally all facets of real estate law.  After a brief hiatus to care for her growing family, she returned to practice real estate law at McFerran Law.

Heather originally joined McFerran Law as an associate working with the 1031 Tax Deferred Exchange Group within our law practice. Having moved into the transactional real estate attorney group, she will continue to assist the 1031 tax deferred exchange group as their House Counsel.  She also plays an integral role in our in-house, full-service commercial and residential escrow department.

Heather is a longtime resident of the Pacific Northwest being originally from Bellingham, Washington.  She spends her free time with her family and dog; doing home improvements, and trying to tame her yard. 

Gurpreet Gill

Gurpreet Gill is an associate real estate and business attorney at McFerran Law.  He previously received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington. Following his graduation from the University of Washington, and after a few years working as a consultant, Gurpreet went on to graduate from Seattle University School of Law.

During law school, Gurpreet was one of two students in his class to receive the Washington State Scholar Scholarship for all three years and was one of ten students selected for the LEAD-WA summer clerkship program. During law school, Gurpreet also gained valuable courtroom experience as a Rule 9 Prosecutor at the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and was part of an Entrepreneurial Law Clinic assisting local entrepreneurs with their legal needs.

Additionally, Gurpreet was also a law clerk for a class-action litigation law firm in downtown Seattle and was a legal intern at the Office of Disciplinary Counsel at the Washington State Bar Association.  After graduating from law school, Gurpreet practiced corporate litigation at a large defense firm primarily focusing on insurance coverage and casualty matters.

With a background in corporate litigation and a finance degree from the Foster School of Business, Gurpreet brings a unique perspective to our law practice to assist clients on matters regarding real estate and business law.

Gurpreet is a Pacific Northwest native and previously attended Kentridge High School.  When not in the office, Gurpreet can be found cheering on the Huskies, playing pickup basketball, and spending time with family and friends.
